Gender Equality Plan

Last Updated: January 2026

The Taekwondo Council UK is committed to promoting gender equality and creating an inclusive environment for all practitioners, regardless of gender, in all aspects of martial arts.

Our Commitment

The Taekwondo Council UK (TCUK) recognizes that martial arts should be accessible to everyone, regardless of gender. We are committed to creating an environment where all practitioners, instructors, and leaders can thrive equally. We believe that diversity strengthens our community and enriches the martial arts experience for all members.

Internal Practices and Governance

  • We ensure equal representation in our Executive Board and decision-making bodies, actively encouraging participation from practitioners of all genders in leadership roles.
  • We provide equal opportunities for training, advancement, and recognition, ensuring that grading criteria and promotion pathways are applied fairly and transparently regardless of gender.

External Activities and Events

  • We organize and support tournaments, seminars, and events that are inclusive and provide equal opportunities for participation and success across all gender categories.
  • We actively promote role models of all genders in martial arts, celebrating achievements and contributions from practitioners across our diverse community.

Future Goals and Development

  • We will continue to develop programs and initiatives that specifically address any remaining barriers to participation in martial arts for underrepresented genders.
  • We commit to regular training for our instructors and leaders on inclusive teaching practices and creating safe, welcoming environments for all practitioners.

Monitoring and Accountability

  • We will regularly review our membership demographics, leadership composition, and event participation to ensure we are making progress toward our gender equality goals.
  • We welcome feedback from our community and will conduct periodic surveys to understand experiences and identify areas for improvement in our gender equality practices.

This Gender Equality Plan represents the TCUK's ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive martial arts community.
